School and Daycare Toxin Awareness

Even when your home is low-toxin, many children are exposed elsewhere. While you can’t control everything, you can take simple steps to reduce exposure outside the home.

⚠️ Common exposure points:

  • Classroom cleaning supplies: Often contain bleach, quats, and fragranced sprays.
  • Air fresheners in classrooms or bathrooms
  • Plastic lunchboxes and containers
  • Playground or cafeteria pest treatments

🛡️ What you can do:

  • Pack lunches in stainless or glass containers.
  • Provide your child with fragrance-free hand wipes or personal care items.
  • Ask daycare providers about cleaning practices and request fragrance-free, non-toxic options.
  • Educate older children on washing hands before eating and not putting toys or hands in their mouths unnecessarily.
  • If medically necessary, consider a doctor’s note for avoiding exposure to synthetic fragrance or harsh cleaners (many schools will honor this if framed as a health concern).

Children have a long life ahead of them — which means long-term cumulative exposure matters more. Reducing their toxic load early supports better immune function, healthier development, and improved resilience in the years ahead.
