Step by Step Workflow
Begin by preparing the inspection area: close windows and avoid activity for several hours to stabilize indoor air and reduce dust or thermal fluctuations. This ensures readings and visual observations reflect true conditions.
Proceed with baseline environmental readings: measure RH and temperature in each major room. Make note of any readings where RH exceeds ~60%, as these zones may warrant closer visual review.
Conduct a systematic visual scan, following the guidelines covered in the rest of this course. Photograph all areas of concern, tagging each image with date and location. Record odor impressions like musty or earthy scents and texture changes. Finally, interpret your collected data: clusters of elevated RH, moisture readings, staining, or UV luminescence patterns all point toward zones where DIY testing or professional consultation could be helpful.
