Avoiding Lab Interference and Sampling Errors
qPCR analysis is sensitive to certain contaminants that can inhibit or skew results. Be mindful of:
Common Interferents:
- Drywall or construction dust
- Blood or rust (iron oxide)
- Paint flakes or cellulose insulation
- Salt, soil, or clay particles
- Household cleaners, pesticides, or tobacco smoke
Tips to avoid interference:
- Avoid visibly dusty construction areas
- Don’t sample near recent repairs, leaks, or rusted materials
- Store the sample in a cool, dry place until shipped
- Communicate any known environmental factors with the lab
