Fungi10
WHAT IS FUNGI 10?
The Fungi 10 test is a modern, DNA-based mold testing method designed to provide a focused and actionable overview of mold species that are most relevant to indoor environmental health. Built on the same qPCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) technology used in ERMI and HERTSMI-2 testing, Fungi 10 offers a simplified, medically-informed panel that identifies 10 of the most impactful mold species found in water-damaged or mold-contaminated buildings.
Unlike ERMI, which compares broad groups of molds, or HERTSMI-2, which zeroes in on the most toxic molds for sensitive individuals, Fungi 10 strikes a balance between scope and simplicity. It was developed in collaboration with indoor environmental professionals and medical practitioners to offer results that are both meaningful and easy to interpret.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Fungi 10 analyzes dust samples collected from indoor environments—usually from undisturbed areas such as baseboards, door trims, or high shelves. These samples are sent to a laboratory where mold DNA is extracted and analyzed using qPCR. The lab report lists the presence and quantity of 10 key mold species, including some of the most common and concerning molds related to indoor water damage and potential health effects.
The species included in Fungi 10 are selected based on their relevance to both building science and clinical concerns. This focused approach helps bridge the gap between environmental data and real-world health decisions.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FUNGI 10
The strength of the Fungi 10 test lies in its simplicity and clinical relevance. By concentrating on 10 well-researched molds—including Aspergillus versicolor, Stachybotrys chartarum, Chaetomium globosum, and others—it offers a streamlined way to assess whether a home environment contains mold species that could affect health.
Fungi 10 is especially helpful for:
- Post-remediation verification
- Baseline assessments for sensitive individuals
- Comparing before-and-after cleaning efforts
- Evaluating specific rooms or areas of concern
Because the test focuses on species known to produce mycotoxins or indicate significant water damage, elevated results often correlate with environmental conditions that need to be addressed. This makes Fungi 10 a practical and powerful tool in both prevention and recovery.
