Inspecting Exterior Foundation Lines for Clues
If the bathroom shower is located along an exterior wall, it’s smart to step outside and inspect the foundation line. Water leaking from a shower pan, wall penetration, or plumbing could show up on the outside of the home if it’s been leaking long enough.
Here’s what to look for along the exterior:
- Stains, efflorescence (white, chalky deposits), or discoloration on brick, stucco, or siding.
- Cracks or separation at the foundation line near the bathroom wall.
- Vegetation that seems unusually lush or muddy areas near the base of the house.
While outside, also check for proper drainage away from the house. Poor drainage can trap moisture around the foundation, which can add to interior water issues.
