Shielding Options for Homes
Several shielding products and technologies are available to help block or reduce EMFs when needed:
- Shielding Paints – Conductive paints create a barrier against radiofrequency (RF) radiation. These are typically applied to interior walls that face strong external sources. Proper grounding is needed for maximum effectiveness.
- Shielding Fabrics and Bed Canopies – Specialized fabrics woven with silver, copper, or nickel can block RF radiation. Bed canopies create a protected sleeping space for sensitive individuals and are often used when external wireless sources cannot be removed.
- Smart Meter Shields – Stainless steel mesh covers are available that fit over smart meters. These covers block a large portion of RF emissions while allowing the meter to function normally.
- Window Films and Shielding Curtains – Windows are weak points in home shielding. Conductive window films and heavy shielding curtains can block RF signals from passing through glass.
- Dirty Electricity Filters – Plug-in filters are designed to reduce high-frequency electrical noise (“dirty electricity”) on home wiring. Effectiveness varies depending on home layout, and professional testing is recommended before widespread use.
- Shielded Cables and Power Strips – Shielded Ethernet cables, shielded power strips, and shielded device cords can reduce electric fields around desks, bedrooms, and electronics setups.
