Types of EMFs
There are two basic types of EMFs you may encounter at home:
- Low-frequency EMFs are created by electrical wiring, appliances, and anything that plugs into the wall. These fields are related to the flow of electricity through wires.
- High-frequency EMFs, often called radiofrequency (RF) fields, are produced by wireless technology like cell phones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices, and smart meters. These fields travel through the air as part of wireless communication.
Both types are common in most homes today. Being able to recognize whether something is wired or wireless can help you better understand your exposure.
