When to Bring in an Expert

Even the most observant homebuyer may miss hidden environmental hazards. That’s where an Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) can provide invaluable insight—especially one familiar with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) or environmental sensitivities. A trained IEP can detect subtle water damage, assess air quality, and recommend diagnostic testing that fits your health concerns.

Bring in an expert when:

  • There’s a known or suspected history of water damage.
  • You detect musty odors, even in the absence of visible mold.
  • The home has been flipped, remodeled, or vacant.
  • You’re unsure whether materials or HVAC systems are suitable for sensitive occupants.

Choose an IEP with CIEC, CMI, or similar credentials and experience in medical referrals. When possible, schedule a pre-purchase inspection before finalizing your offer.
