Foods That Support Liver Function

Detoxification is a continuous, natural process carried out primarily by the liver, kidneys, gut, lungs, and skin. These organs work together to identify, process, and safely eliminate toxins—including environmental chemicals, mycotoxins, and metabolic waste.

The liver plays a starring role by converting fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble compounds that can be excreted. This process requires a steady supply of nutrients—including B vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids—to function optimally. When nutrition is poor or toxin exposure is high, these pathways can become sluggish or overwhelmed.

Diet can either support or hinder detox. Eating nutrient-rich, whole foods provides the body with what it needs to process toxins, while inflammatory, processed foods can increase toxic load and impair detox systems. Hydration, digestion, and elimination must also be working well for detox to be effective.
