The Role of Humidity in IAQ
Humidity plays a big role in indoor air quality. If the air in your home is too moist or too dry, it can create the perfect conditions for problems like mold growth, respiratory irritation, and even damage to your home’s structure.
The goal: Keep indoor relative humidity (RH) between 40% and 50% for optimal health and comfort.
- Too low (<30%) – Dry air can irritate skin, eyes, and the respiratory system, making asthma or sinus problems worse.
- Too high (>60%) – Excess moisture creates a breeding ground for mold, dust mites, and bacteria.
Controlling humidity is one of the simplest ways to create a healthier home—and it’s often the first place to start.
