Testing for Radon – Short Term vs. Long Term Options

Testing is the only way to know if your home has elevated radon levels.

Short-term tests:

  • Usually 2–7 days
  • Ideal for initial screening
  • Use charcoal canisters or digital test kits
  • Best placed in basements or the lowest lived-in level

Long-term tests:

  • 90+ days
  • Provide a better average of seasonal fluctuations
  • Strongly recommended before investing in mitigation

When to test:

  • Before buying or selling a home
  • After any major renovation
  • Every 2–5 years, especially if you live in a radon-prone area
