Testing for Radon – Short Term vs. Long Term Options
Testing is the only way to know if your home has elevated radon levels.
Short-term tests:
- Usually 2–7 days
- Ideal for initial screening
- Use charcoal canisters or digital test kits
- Best placed in basements or the lowest lived-in level
Long-term tests:
- 90+ days
- Provide a better average of seasonal fluctuations
- Strongly recommended before investing in mitigation
When to test:
- Before buying or selling a home
- After any major renovation
- Every 2–5 years, especially if you live in a radon-prone area
