What is Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10)?
Particulate matter refers to tiny particles in the air that you can’t always see, but you definitely breathe in. These particles are classified by size:
- PM10: Larger particles like dust, pollen, and mold spores
- PM2.5: Fine particles from smoke, cooking, and outdoor pollution (can enter the lungs and bloodstream)
Why it matters: PM2.5 and PM10 can trigger respiratory symptoms, worsen asthma, and increase long-term health risks like heart disease or lung cancer. People with compromised immune systems or chronic illness are especially vulnerable.
