Where to Place Air Purifiers (Room-by-Room Guidance)

Even the best air purifier won’t do much if it’s stuck in the wrong spot. Placement matters just as much as performance. To get the most benefit, you want your purifier pulling in dirty air and sending out clean air where you breathe—not hidden in a corner.

Here’s a room-by-room strategy:

  • Bedrooms: Place the unit near the bed, ideally 3–6 feet away and unobstructed. This ensures you breathe clean air all night.
  • Living Rooms: Position the purifier in a central open area, away from walls or furniture that block airflow. Avoid placing it behind a couch or under a table.
  • Home Offices: Keep it close to your desk or chair, especially if you spend hours working in one spot.
  • Nurseries or Children’s Rooms: Choose quiet units and place them near the crib or play area—but out of reach of little hands.
  • Hallways or Open Spaces: If you have an open floor plan, use a purifier with a larger CADR and central placement—or use multiple units to cover different zones.

Make sure the unit has at least 12–18 inches of clearance on all sides, especially around the intake and exhaust vents.
