Using Safe UV Purification and Ionization

In certain homes—especially those with a history of mold—additional air cleaning technologies can be installed inside the HVAC system to reduce microbial growth and improve sanitation between deep cleanings.

UV purification systems:

  • Best installed in the supply plenum, where they can neutralize mold, bacteria, and viruses passing through the air.
  • Choose photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) units like the REME Halo LED that produce zero ozone.
  • These systems offer continuous sanitization and help prevent regrowth on coils and duct surfaces.

Ionization systems:

  • Devices using bipolar ionization can help particles clump together so they’re easier to capture by filters.
  • Consider portable units for individual rooms or HVAC-installed models like the Aerus Air Scrubber or iWave-R—again, ensuring they are certified ozone-free.

While these tools are not a replacement for good filtration and regular cleaning, they can be a helpful supplement in homes where minimizing biological contaminants is essential. Be selective and do your research before installing any device.
