Cleaning Upholstery, Mattresses, and Textiles
Soft surfaces like couches, chairs, and bedding collect dust constantly—especially in households with pets, children, or heavy use. While protective encasements help reduce accumulation, routine cleaning of these items is still necessary to minimize exposure.
How to maintain these surfaces:
- Mattresses and encasements should be vacuumed weekly with a HEPA mattress vacuum
- Pillows, especially the ones used nightly, should also be vacuumed weekly—even if encased
- Couches, chairs, and upholstered headboards should be vacuumed at least monthly
- Wash blankets, throw pillows, and removable covers regularly in hot water if tolerated
Using a dedicated handheld HEPA vacuum with a roller brush attachment makes this task easier and more effective. Avoid using standard vacuums on soft surfaces unless they have sealed filtration systems designed for upholstery use.
