The Role of the Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP)
Your inspector—often referred to as an IEP (Indoor Environmental Professional)—is more than someone looking for visible mold. A good IEP combines building science knowledge with medical awareness to understand how mold, moisture, and other contaminants might be impacting both the structure and the people living in it.
The IEP will:
- Review your symptom history, water damage history, and previous remediation (if any)
- Use tools like moisture meters, particle counters, and infrared cameras to gather data
- Look for signs of contamination in common and uncommon places
- Explain findings in plain language and offer actionable recommendations
This isn’t a quick walk-through. It’s a thoughtful process designed to get to the root of the problem—not just patch over the surface.
