Preparing Your Home for a Mold Dog Inspection
Before the inspection team arrives, there are a few things you can do to make the process smooth and effective:
• Secure pets: Dogs, cats, or other animals should be kept away from the inspection area. This prevents distractions and helps the mold dog stay focused.
• Maintain normal living conditions: Don’t ventilate the home, run air purifiers, or open windows before the visit. The goal is to assess the space under its usual conditions so nothing is masked or dispersed.
• Avoid strong odors: Scented candles, incense, sprays, or recent cooking can interfere with the dog’s scent detection. It’s best to avoid using anything fragrant on the day of the visit.
• Clear access: Unlock doors, move large items if necessary, and make sure the inspection team can reach all rooms, closets, the attic, crawlspace, or anywhere else mold might be hiding.
• Share information: Let the inspector know about past water issues, musty smells, or rooms where you’ve had health symptoms. This helps the handler decide where to spend extra time.
By doing these simple things, you’ll help the dog work more effectively and get the most accurate results possible.
