Manual Leak Checks Using the Water Meter

A hidden leak might not show visible signs—but your water meter can help reveal it.

Here’s a simple method:

  1. Turn off all water inside and outside the home—this includes faucets, showers, washing machines, and irrigation systems.
  2. Locate your water meter, usually found near the curb or in a utility box.
  3. Note the position of the leak indicator (a small dial or triangle) or take a photo of the current reading.
  4. Wait 1–2 hours without using any water, then check the meter again.

➡ If the dial has moved, there’s likely a hidden leak somewhere in your plumbing system.

This simple test can catch leaks early, before they lead to structural damage or indoor humidity issues.
