Laundry Room Moisture: Washers and Dryers
Laundry rooms often go unnoticed when it comes to humidity control—but they can release a lot of moisture into your home, especially during drying cycles or if the dryer vent isn’t working properly.
Control strategies:
- Ensure the dryer is vented to the outside and that the vent is clean and unobstructed
- Use a ventilation fan in the laundry room, ideally with a humidistat or timer to automate use
- Leave the door open during and after laundry to allow moisture to dissipate
- Inspect washer hoses and connections regularly for leaks, bulges, or signs of corrosion
Bonus Tip:
- Install a small ceiling fan or mount an oscillating fan in the laundry room to improve airflow and help dry out humidity quickly. This added circulation can make a big difference in preventing moisture buildup, especially in tight or enclosed laundry spaces.
Moving air not only keeps the space more comfortable but helps reduce the conditions that lead to mold, mildew, and musty odors.
