Bathroom Moisture: Showers and Baths
Bathrooms are prime humidity zones. Steam from hot showers can easily push indoor RH above healthy levels if it’s not properly managed. Without good airflow, moisture lingers—and so does the risk of mold.
Best practices include:
- Install and use a ventilation fan during and for at least 30 minutes after bathing
- Upgrade to a humidistat-controlled fan or timer switch to ensure it runs long enough
- Leave the bathroom door open after showering to allow trapped humidity to escape
- Take shorter, cooler showers when possible to reduce steam buildup
- Mount a small oscillating fan near the ceiling or doorway to improve air circulation—this helps move moisture out of stagnant corners and speeds up drying
Improved air movement makes a big difference in how quickly a bathroom dries out. Even a small plug-in fan, aimed safely and used after bathing, can prevent lingering humidity and reduce mold risk.
