Personal Safety and Protective Gear

Fine particle cleaning stirs up dust and microscopic contaminants. That means protection is important—not just for sensitive individuals, but for anyone doing the cleaning.

Sensitive individuals should avoid participating in this process. If you’re recovering from mold-related illness or have chemical sensitivities, enlist a friend, family member, or professional to help. Exposure during cleaning can trigger symptoms or set back recovery.

Minimum recommended PPE (personal protective equipment):

  • A properly fitted respirator (P100 recommended, N95 minimum)
  • Disposable nitrile gloves
  • Protective eyewear
  • Clothing that can be immediately laundered
  • Hair covering such as a cap or bandana

After cleaning:

  • Shower and change clothes immediately
  • Wash exposed skin thoroughly
  • Launder clothing separately from other laundry

These precautions help reduce your own exposure and prevent tracking particles into clean areas of your home.
