Pre-Clean
HEPA Vacuum (Crisscross Pattern)
Before any cutting or removal starts, vacuuming is the first defense against spreading contaminants. A standard vacuum isn’t enough—use a HEPA-filter vacuum, which captures microscopic particles instead of blowing them back into the air.
Vacuum the entire carpet slowly in a crisscross pattern. Go over each area at least twice—once in each direction—to lift more dust and debris. This step helps reduce the amount of surface contamination that could otherwise go airborne during removal. It’s simple, but it makes a big difference.
Mist the Carpet
After vacuuming, a light misting helps keep particles grounded. This is especially useful for controlling allergens, fine dust, and mold fragments during the cutting process.
Use a pump sprayer filled with water and a few drops of free & clear dish soap (such as Seventh Generation or Dawn Free & Clear). Lightly mist the surface of the carpet—just enough to dampen it without soaking. This binds loose dust to the carpet fibers so less becomes airborne once you begin removing it.
