What to Look for in a Qualified IEP
Choosing the right Indoor Environmental Professional (IEP) starts with verifying their qualifications. In states where licensure is required—such as Texas, Florida, and New York—ensure the professional holds a current, active license. This not only ensures they’ve met minimum training and experience standards, but also helps protect you legally in the event of a dispute.
Beyond licensure, look for relevant certifications from respected organizations like ACAC, IICRC, or NORMI. These credentials indicate the professional has completed specialized education, passed exams, and stays current with continuing education. You should also ask if the IEP has experience working with clients referred by medical professionals, especially if there are health sensitivities in the household.
Transparency is another critical trait. A trustworthy IEP should clearly explain and provide in writing their pricing, process, and the type of equipment they use. You should know what you’re paying for, what tests will be conducted, and when to expect results. Look for professionals who provide detailed written reports, offer personalized recommendations, and are willing to answer questions without pressure or fear-based tactics.
