Where Mold Can Be Found

Mold is ubiquitous, thriving in a wide variety of environments and ecosystems. Its presence is not limited by geography or habitat; instead, mold adapts to almost every condition on Earth.

Mold thrives in nearly all environments—from forests, grasslands, deserts, and wetlands to urban areas—but its remarkable biodiversity shines in extreme conditions. Mold species have adapted to survive and grow in harsh environments, including polar ice, where temperatures remain below freezing, and arid deserts, where water is scarce. These adaptations highlight mold’s incredible resilience and its ability to exist in conditions that challenge most life forms.

Mold exists everywhere, from the outdoors to every home, quietly thriving in wall cavities, dust, and even the air we breathe. Completely eliminating mold isn’t possible—or even desirable—as it’s a natural part of our environment. Instead, our goal is managing indoor conditions to prevent mold from becoming overpopulated or allowing harmful species to take hold. By controlling moisture and maintaining healthy indoor environments, we can coexist safely with mold, reducing potential health impacts and protecting our living spaces.
