0.0 Welcome

In this short introduction, you’ll learn how the Roadmap to Recovery works, how the course is organized, and how it can help you decide what to do next.

Lesson at a Glance

Many people begin their mold recovery journey feeling overwhelmed.

Conflicting advice, costly recommendations, and too many opinions can make it hard to know where to start.

The Roadmap to Recovery is designed to make that process easier by breaking it down into two simple steps:

  • Get You Out of It – Find and eliminate possible sources of contamination, avoid areas where contamination is known or suspected, and, when needed, temporarily relocate away from the affected environment.
  • Get It Out of You – Support your body’s recovery through healthy lifestyle choices and, when appropriate, work with a qualified medical professional to support detoxification.

But the right next step is not the same for everyone.

The Roadmap helps you consider three important parts of your situation:

  • The environmental conditions – What is happening in the home, workplace, or belongings?
  • The occupants – Who is spending time in the space, and how sensitive or vulnerable might they be?
  • Life circumstances – What financial, housing, work, family, caregiving, and support options are available?

Looking at all three helps you choose an approach that fits your actual situation.

Throughout the Roadmap, you may also see options presented at different levels, from lower-cost DIY approaches to more comprehensive professional solutions. The goal is not to choose the most expensive option. It is to choose the level that best fits the environmental conditions, the occupants, and your life circumstances.

The goal isn’t to solve everything at once. The goal is to help you identify the right next step—and keep moving forward.

How the Course Is Organized

The Roadmap uses two main types of videos.

What and When videos are brief, instructional videos that help you decide what may need to be done next, when to do it, what can wait, and when it may be time to get more help.

How and Why 101 videos are educational videos that provide more background. They explain how something works, why it matters, and other information you may want when you need a deeper understanding.

Start with the What and When video for your current Roadmap step.

Then watch the How and Why 101 videos as needed for more detail.
